Sharon L. Phelps, Ph.D.
Psychologist
Dr. Phelps brings a profound commitment to women's issues to her practice of psychology. From marriage and family counseling to the problems associated with caring for elderly parents or dealing with the impact of a life-threatening disease, she helps women manage the emotional turmoil in their lives with great compassion and understanding.
Dr. Phelps received her bachelor's degree in English from California State University, Long Beach, before enrolling at U.S. International University in San Diego, where she earned a Master's Degree and a PhD. in Psychology in 1976. She then went on to post-doctoral studies at the Advanced Center for Psychotherapy in New York.
In 1978, she entered private practice as a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Phelps has been a consultant to post-mastectomy patients at the Long Beach Tumor Institute, as well as to battered women with dissociative disorders at the Interval House in Seal Beach. She has also been a supervising psychologist at the Los Alamitos Counseling Center and the West County Counseling Center in Huntington Beach.
Dr. Phelps is a member of the American Psychological Association and has been actively involved in the International Society for the Study of Dissociation since 1991.
